A Magical Proposal in Lapland

Recently two of our Head Office staff, Clarissa and Andy, travelled to Lapland to enjoy a romantic getaway. Little did Clarissa know, that Andy had an extra special surprise planned for her….

“So you recently travelled to Lapland for a magical trip, but you didn’t realise quite how magical it was going to be…” Where did you travel to?Levi in Lapland on a 4 night Inghams Santa Break What happened on that specific evening, did you have any suspicions? Not at all, it was the last night of our stay and we had made plans after dinner to go over to the frozen lake, a little outside of town to see if we could catch the Northern lights before we came home. We were at the Santa Dinner when Andy told me we had to leave, I think the first thing I said was ‘but I haven’t had any ice cream!’ Once we got past that hurdle and into the taxi I was very excited to see what surprise he has arranged, but not for a second did I expect a proposal! Can you describe the moment he asked the question? There just aren’t words, I was completely stunned, the Northern Lights were out, it was just beautiful. I didn’t expect a night in the Glass Igloo or to see the Northern Lights let alone a proposal, he even got down on one knee! When we arrived at the Igloo there was a bottle of champagne and box of chocolates waiting for us, he said we could open the chocolates but should wait for the Northern Lights to come out before opening the champagne, I should have known!

How did you feel, did you say yes straight away?

I was stunned, but I did say yes straight away! I just had no idea, we are currently saving to buy a house so I thought getting engaged was going to have to wait a few years.

We understand you stayed in one of the glass igloos that evening, would you recommend this accommodation?

Absolutely! There lovely so well situated at the top of the fell, you can see for miles its very peaceful. It’s a bit like being in a greenhouse but once you get past that it’s so easy to relax, watch the sky and hope to see the Northern Lights!

If you had to sum up your trip in 3 words what would you say?

Incredible, unforgettable & magical!

“You recently travelled to Lapland and something very exciting happened when you were there…. “ Why did you choose Lapland for that special moment?A trip to Lapland isn’t like your usual sort of holiday, Finish Lapland is a stunning location, with vast snow covered forests and beautiful frozen lakes covered in completely unspoilt snow, so that in itself made the trip a special one, due to the short daylight hours over winter, the sky is a mix of amazing colours as the Sun Rises and Sets almost straight after one another too. Rizz has always been obsessed with Christmas, and Animals, so where better to take her, than somewhere we had the chance to go on a Husky Ride, Reindeer Safari, and a Horse Drawn sleigh ride through the forest at night, as well as Visiting Santa at his Grotto. We are both Keen Skier’s and managed to fit in an afternoon on Levi’s flood lit slopes, and unlike more traditional ski locations such as the Alps, where your view is dominated by the surrounding mountains, at the top of the fell, you could see for hundreds of miles of vast Forest, with lakes, and rivers cutting through the landscape. Where were you when you popped the question? On the final evening of the holiday, I arranged for Rizz and I to be whisked away to a Glass Igloo up on the top of the Fell, about 20 minutes outside Levi centre. Were you nervous at all, how did it go?I told Rizz it was time to go, as we were going out for the evening, she was more concerned about the fact that she hadn’t had her Desert yet, which nearly scuppered my plans, I think when she realised I wasn’t joking, she excitedly jumped up and we went to meet our Taxi, the whole way up to the Igloo, Rizz was trying to guess where we were off too, we arrived at the Igloo’s, but due to the Darkness, it wasn’t until she actually got out the Taxi, and looked around she realised where we were! The Champagne and Chocolates were in the Igloo as requested, which helped eased the nerves as we settled into our own private Glass Igloo for the evening, the Moon was so low and bright in the sky, that we barely needed to turn the lights on in the Igloo, at that point, I was more nervous about what I was going to say, and when, while really hoping the Northern Lights would make an appearance to finish the whole setting off perfectly.

Did you get to see the Northern Lights, what was that like?

We did!! I was starting to worry, as a thin layer of cloud looked like it was starting to creep over the skies above us, but then, at about 9pm we started to see little flickers of light, which I put down to being the moonlight through the cloud, but then the colour started to come through, Greens, with streaks of purple and blue started to flick across the sky, it was like the clouds decided to move out the way so we would see them, which just made the whole experience of seeing them that more Magical. The Igloo’s are up and away from the Light of the resort centre of Levi, so we got a pretty clear view of them for a good couple of hours. I couldn’t have asked for it to play out any better. About an hour in, I managed to calm Rizz down long enough to pop the question.

We understand you stayed in one of the glass igloos that evening, would you recommend this accommodation?

I certainly would, whilst it takes a moment to get used to the fact that you are in a Room made of glass, but the Igloo’s are laid out in such a way, you still get enough privacy, the Igloo’s are also purposely equipped without any TV’s/Radio, and just a simple CD player, which helps create a lovely secluded, relaxed and romantic atmosphere, with the moon and stars, and if you’re lucky, the Northern Lights, above you in full view, the beds in the Igloo’s are adjustable by remote so you can sit up in comfort and just watch the sky.

If you had to sum up your trip in 3 words what would you say?

I’m genuinely not sure I could, I can only urge anyone who has a chance to visit Lapland to do it, whilst our trip was obviously extra special for us, it’s a once in a lifetime experience like no other Ski or short break could provide. I guess 3 words that come to mind to describe Lapland, are Magical, Beautiful & Special!
