Galina our Resort Representative in Sestriere has given us her top tips for skiing in and around Sestriere in Italy:

1. Important! Come prepared to ski all/or most of these 400 km of runs. This is what your lift pass includes! Ski from one village into another; enjoy the sun and the beautiful scenery all around! Remember, you are spoiled with choices of pistes; runs are facing all directions, do ski every day for the unique panoramas, experiences and feelings. Ski for the memories and photos you’ll take back home.

2. Ski the Olimpica run in Sansicario. It would only be 20-30 minutes away from Sestriere- first take the Fraiteve Gondola to the second top station and then turn left and left once again. The run is black, perfectly pisted most of the time unless there is fresh snow. It is steep on places, however wonderful. On your return to Sestriere take La Sellette chair lift, Roccia Rotonda chair lift, one of the two Fraiteve button-drag-lifts and the Gondola back to the resort. In the Olympic games of 2006 this slope was used for women’s combined (downhill), downhill, and super-g.
3. Ski the Kandahar Piste above Borgata – the run is black and just below Mt. Motta, vertical on the top, then rolling down to the village and getting steep again towards the final part. Just perfect! From Sestriere ski to the village of Borgata, take chairlift Nuova Nube – on the top turn right and ski on slope 9 which crosses with Kandahar. Stop for drink/lunch at Il Capret bar in Borgata or at Chisonetto Bar/Restaurant on slope 8. In the Olympics of 2006 Alpine skiing men’s combined (downhill), downhill, super-g took place here.

4. Try the three Olympic runs in Sestriere. Access by CIT ROC chairlift from the town centre is quick and easy, and the runs exhilarating. Slopes were used for the Alpine skiing (combined slalom, giant slalom, slalom) in 2006
5. Ski the area of Sauze D’Oulx. Here I would like to mention slopes 47, 12, 11, Gran Pista, 29, 2000, 3000. All are reds, not as steep as the slopes above Borgata, wide enough, through the forest and above the tree line too – just wonderful. I love all of them! Stop for a drink/lunch in the area of Sportinia or maybe in the village of Sauze itself. Sauze D’Oulx is a big ski area; if you can’t ski all the runs in a day you’ll be pleased to come again, and again, and again… Just like many skiers do
6. Ski from Italy to France and back in a day. For confident and quick red-run skiers; however by the time you arrive you may not have time to ski all the runs in Montgenevre itself as the area is about a quarter from the Milky Way. Remember in order to come back to Sestriere when the lifts are still open, you’ll need to start skiing back in the early afternoon.

7. Join the Inghams Ski away day to Montgenevre on Thursday. Having mastered the Italian sector of the Milky Way try a new area in the French resort of Montgenevre, a day you’ll remember. Montgenevre is the most western ski area of the Milky Way and getting there on skis may not leave you enough time to enjoy the variety of slopes on the two mountain sides there. Join us in a private coach; experience the delightful skiing in Montgenevre as well as above the Italian town of Claviere! Montgenevre is only a bus ride away and offers a full day’s fun.
8. Visit the open-air swimming pool in Sestriere. It is heated! 26 degrees Centigrade! After a cold day on the slopes why not swim surrounded by snow-peaked mountains out in the open?
9. Try cross country skiing/ snow-shoe walk or a simple walk on Via Monte Rotta above the town to enjoy the silence and all spectacular mountain views!

10. Go ice-skating in the rink above Scoula Nazionale Di Sestriere
