Whistler is not just considered to be the No.1 Ski and Snowboard resort in North America with amazing acreage of terrain for snowsports… it is also a amazing resort for non-ski activities, novel events, fine dining and some great après ski!
One of these fantastic experiences is the VODKA ROOM housed in the BearFoot Bistro in the Listel Hotel, one of the hotels featured in our Inghams Ski program. This hotel is in the centre of Whistler Village, just steps from the lively pedestrianised village stroll. The Vodka Room, or Ketel One Ice Room, has been totally iced to a temperature of -32 degrees C/-25 degrees F! Fortunately however, on arrival you are given Canadian Goose Down Arctic parkas to wear to keep you cosy and warm. You then step into the coldest vodka tasting room in the world – and that’s no exaggeration (probably). It is certainly the only permanent sub-zero vodka room in Canada. Here you spend the next twenty to thirty minutes sampling 4 vodkas of your choice from a selection of 50 and there’s an expert on hand to explain the intricacies of vodka distillation which is handy if that’s not your forte! The Vodka Room is open right through from 3.00 pm to midnight.
After taking some great selfies and even better vodka, when you emerge from the vodka room you’re spoiled for choice at the Bearfoot Bistro. With modern jazz in the background, between 3-6 pm every day you can enjoy their Oyster Special at the bar or make the most of their Happy Hour special of 50% off all bar food! For a final flourish, finish by indulging in yummy ice cream made at your table with liquid nitrogen!!
If you are celebrating a special event then champagne sabering can also be organised. This is where you learn to open a champagne bottle using a sword!! The rather unusual but mightily impressive technique dates back to the time of Napolean when it meant good luck to saber a bottle of champagne before going out to battle to conquer the enemy. The champagne sabering takes place in a special environment in an underground wine cellar with over 20.000 bottles of wine; home of the largest wine programme in British Columbia.
