Ratings/reviewsClick for full ratings

Parc Hotel Gritti is close to the edge of the lake and near the popular Lido Mirabello beach. The centre of Bardolino is close by too. It offers good value for money and has a homely atmosphere, making you feel welcome and comfortable. It has a traditional Italian décor with locally-made furniture and antiques. You’ll find everything you need in the rooms – some of them have been renovated recently while others are more traditional.

There are three restaurants to choose from with everything from Italian to international dishes, so you’ll definitely find something you like. There's a big garden around the hotel and there are always plenty of shady spots to relax in. The outdoor pool is great on sunny days so make sure you spend some time here. We also love the spa, which has a sauna, Turkish bath and heated indoor pool (some spa facilities are payable locally).

Please note that children under the age of 10 are not permitted to stay at this property.

Bardolino

A holiday to Bardolino means enjoying lots of excellent wines. The town's surrounded by a stunning scene of orchards, olive groves and vineyards. Plan your trip for around the end of September and you’ll be able to enjoy the Bardolino Wine Festival that celebrates the town’s namesake wine - a light, fruity red that pairs perfectly with fish.

What to see on a Bardolino holiday

It’s not just about the wine here. The town has a busy main square filled with cafés, restaurants and upmarket shops. Evening choir and music concerts are often held here during the summer, making it a great place to spend an evening people watching and enjoying local food. The square leads down to a pretty harbour where you’ll find miles of lakeside promenade that’s perfect for walking or cycling - it’ll take you all the way to the neighbouring resort of Garda. If you’re after something more strenuous, there are plenty of walking trails nearby. Choose from over 20 that head up into the hills that surround the town.

Things to Do

Things to see and do

Jump on a ferry and visit the other towns on the lake. Sirmione will take about an hour – head here to get some fab holiday photos of the castle and moat, plus try the town’s famous ice cream! Hop across the lake to Gardone and visit the Heller Botanical Gardens – we love afternoons here admiring the flowers and the interesting artwork.

If you want some thrills, spend a day at a theme park. Gardaland, Caneva World and Movieland are all close by. To get your culture fix, head to Venice or Verona for the day. Trains run regularly from stations in Desenzano and Peschiera.

Food & wine

This town is serious about its wine and there’s lots of opportunities to learn all about it by taking trips to the nearby vineyards. Go to the Zeni Winery for a tasting and tour of the vines. There’s a great museum there too. The Bardolino Wine Festival takes place twice a year. There's plenty of opportunity to taste the wines and sample regional food specialties, all accompanied by musical concerts ending in a spectacular firework display over the lake.

As well as wine, Bardolino is known for its olive oil. You’ll find a museum about two kilometres outside the town where you can see traditional equipment used to make the oil and a shop where you can buy some of the produce.

Activities

There’s lots of great walking trails that start in Bardolino. As the area’s fairly flat, it’s good for beginners. We like the lakeside walks - you can go for about an hour in each direction and stop off for a drink on the way. Head to the top of La Rocca for the best views.

Bardolino has over 100 cycling routes including mountain bike trails and more peaceful routes that follow the lake edge. You can cycle round the whole lake if you want to, or just choose part of it and head back on a ferry. There’s places locally where you can hire bikes – lots of our hotels have some you can borrow, too.
