Loen sits at the inner tip of the Nordfjord in the heart of the Western Fjord’s greatest natural beauty. There can be few more inspirational stretches of scenery than those in the nearby Lodal and Briksdal Valleys, whose farms and forested slopes are mirrored in a chain of glittering emerald lakes culminating in the ice-blue glacial tongues of the great Jøstedal Glacier. As well as trips to the Briksdal and Kjenndal glacier arms and the unmissable Geirangerfjord, there is also good walking terrain, either along the valley or into the mountains via the new Loen Skylift cable-car, plus of course the chance to relax at some of the best spa facilities in the fjords at the Hotel Alexandra
