Hotel Rodella's everything you imagine when you picture an idyllic mountain hideaway – it’s got a cosy Alpine feel and fantastic views over the mountains and valley thanks to its hillside position. It’s outside the centre of Selva so you’re guaranteed a bit of peace and quiet and the spa is the perfect place to rest and rejuvenate. Relax on a sun lounger by the pool in your robe and enjoy an evening aperitivo.

To get into town you can use the hotel’s shuttle or walk – it takes around 15 minutes. If you’re anything like us, you won't be able to wait to get into the mountains and on the walking and cycling trails. The trails are out of this world and the views are different everywhere you look. You can be at the nearest lift in just 15 minutes so it’s so easy to explore the area.

We can’t speak highly enough of the Planker family who have run the Rodella for generations. Their service is impeccable and they’re so friendly, always going the extra mile for their guests. There’s a homely atmosphere throughout the hotel and it’ll feel like you’re at your own table at home when you head to the cosy dining room for dinner. The food is amazing and they only use high quality, local ingredients. Every bite is full of flavour. There’s also a Tyrolean themed night once a week with live music so you can try some of the region’s most popular food.

We could go on about how much we love this hotel, but the best thing to do is to go and see for yourself!

What to see on a Selva holiday

Hiking in the mountains is a must when you visit Selva. The wild flower meadows are in full bloom from mid-May to mid-July, so remember to bring your camera. The trails stretch for miles and early birds can enjoy a spectacular sunrise before tucking in to a well-earned breakfast on the mountain. Keep an eye out for marmots in the wild and golden eagles soaring above you. Visit the Wolkenstein Castle to take in some local culture and when it’s time for a break, find a spot in town for aperitivo and relax with a well-deserved Aperol Spritz.

Things to Do

Things to see and do in Selva

Selva is directly below the Sella Massif. You can expect amazing scenery from this unique mountain range and the Gardena Valley. Most people head for the mountains to explore the endless paths and hiking trails. Rent an e-bike to take the strain off the uphill climbs or jump on a lift for a picturesque ride up to the higher peaks. However you get to the top, expect panoramic views that will blow you away.

Back in resort you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. Pop along the road to Ortisei to check out the markets. The town’s known for its traditional wood carvings.

Food & drink

Whether you’re after an espresso, crisp glass of local wine or a cocktail, there's plenty of great places to choose from, both in resort and on the mountain. The food won’t disappoint either. The typical mountain fare has more Austro-Hungarian influences than it does Italian. Nothing beats rich goulash with dumplings followed by homemade apple strudel after a day exploring the mountains. Although Italian food lovers needn’t worry, it’s easy to stumble upon restaurants serving delicious pizzas, stone baked to perfection.

Mountain biking in the area is second to none. Selva’s Trail Arena has a number of different runs for all abilities. Experienced riders should head for the freeride trails through the forest and for those after something more gentle the winding routes on the family line are just as fun. Best of all the lifts take you to the top of the runs, so all you need to do is enjoy the ride down.

One of the best things in Selva is the Active programme. It includes Nordic walking tasters, rock climbing for beginners, mountain biking, visits to local stables, cookery lessons and yoga. Most of these activities are free.
