Hotel Adria is pure elegance in the centre of Merano. They’ve carefully brought the Art Nouveau building into a new era with a perfect blend of classic interiors and modern comforts. Think parquet floors, bright walls broken up by rich fabrics, and vintage furniture. The attention to detail is incredible and it’s instantly a place where you feel at home.

We love heading straight for the spa when we arrive here. There’s a modern indoor pool with hydro-massage fountains, Turkish bath, hot tub, salt steam bath and whirlpool. All with gorgeous views of the gardens that surround the hotel. If you’d rather get straight out and explore the town, the centre is just a 15-minute walk away along the Passer and Etsch riverside promenades.

Cuisine is an incredibly important part of Italian culture and the Adria embraces that wholeheartedly. You can expect things like home made buttery pastries for breakfast and if you upgrade to half board you'll have stunning five course South Tyrolean dinners at the five-star sister hotel Park Hotel Mignon, just down the road.

Merano’s a spa town just a few miles south of the Austian boarder, so you get this lovely mix of Austro-Italian-Tyrolean culture and cuisine. The Passirio River flows through the centre of town and the promenades on either side are lined by beautiful buildings, with little cafés and restaurants tucked about the place. You couldn’t ask for better scenery – high in the Dolomite mountains, surrounded by vineyards and orchards, it feels idyllic. The Mediterranean climate and fertile soils produce fantastic wines too – so give the local DOC red wines a try while you’re here. There’s varied terrain for walkers and cyclists of all levels. We love the gentle routes along the flat irrigation channels of the Adige Valley that lead to spectacular cascades. The Venosta valley railway from Merano station is a another nice way to explore this beautiful valley; it’s all free with your 7 day Mobilcard, as are the buses and lifts. In between or after active days in the mountains take relaxing dip in the Merano Terme spa pools – it’s the perfect antidote to aching muscles.

The spa at the Hotel Adria has cool, calming tones with features made from local wood and stone. You'll find four therapy saunas, a steam room and whirlpool as well as the large indoor swimming pool and massage fountain. Massages, beauty treatments and a sunbed are available for you to book and pay for locally. Pool towels are provided.
