Plan de Corones Holidays

Summers in the Dolomites are special - take a trip to Plan de Corones, known as Kronplatz, to see for yourself. Our hotels are based in San Vigilio di Merebbe, a small village on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Fanes-Sennes-Prags National Park. It's full of well-marked walking and cycling trails and some pretty jaw dropping views. There's plenty of other outdoor activities to give a try too, you'll find everything from paragliding to zip lining.

There is something for everyone here - it's perfect for a relaxing holiday were you can soak up nature. The lifts run in the summer, so you can reach the high peaks and their spectacular views even if you're not here to hike. Once you're in the mountains you're bound to stumble upon traditional refugio's where they serve some of the tastiest local Ladin and South Tyrolean cuisine. The region is famous for its food with influences from Italy, Austria and Switserland. Canederli - bread dumplings with local speck ham and cheese - are our favourite lunchtime snack in the mountains.

Fanes-Sennes-Prags National Park

San Vigilio di Merebbe is at the western edge of this UNESCO World Heritage National Park and you'll find the parks tourist information centre in the village. The landscape of rugged karstic limestone, caves, underground streams and small lakes are the backdrop to popular walking and hiking trails through the Fanes high plateau. The Pragser Wildsee lake at the base of the majestic Seekofel mountain is one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites. You can swim here too, but be ready for the icy mountain water!

Messner Mountain Museum Corones

The Messner Mountain Museum project began in 2006, set up by Reinhold Messner, the extreme climber and mountaineer, with the aim of educating visitors about the mountains. From the science of glaciers to the history of the local people, a visit to one of the six museums its a great way to get an understanding of the region. MMM Corones opened in 2015 at the summit of the plateau of Kronplatz - it's dedicated to traditional mountaineering. The the unique modern structure, designed by British architect Zaha Hadid, is surrounded by the alpine peaks of the Zillertal, Ortler and Dolomites - so you're in for some spectacular views.
