Skiing and snowboarding in Alpbach

Ski Alpbach! This delightful, award-winning, quintessentially traditional Austrian village with its gothic spired church, narrow streets, and minimal traffic is one of the most attractive villages in the Austrian Tyrol. Its traditional wooden farmhouses are set against the backdrop of the Gratlspitz peaks.

A gondola links Inneralpbach with the The Ski Juwel Area, giving beginners and intermediates an even wider selection of runs to choose from.

Non-skiers can enjoy a variety of activities and in the evenings horse-drawn sleigh rides to the Rossmoos Inn for a mulled wine are great fun.

All guests receive the ‘Alpbach Seenland Card’ which gives either free participation or reductions on activities such as snowshoeing, guided cross-country skiing, ice-skating and torchlit walks.

The resort has won awards for being “Austria’s most beautiful village”, and having the “purest air” in the country.

Bars and restaurants in Alpbach

There are a number of quality resort restaurants and mountain bars to try out in Alpbach.

The Böglalm is a great spot for some mulled wine or a hot chocolate. The Wiedersbergerhorn Hütte at the top of the Horn lift is a convenient meeting point to fuel up for lunch.

In resort there is a good variety of restaurants in and around Alpbach. As is typical of Austrian villages, many of them are based in the hotel's bars and restaurants.

Centrally positioned in Alpbach with lovely views of the mountains and close to the nursery slopes and ski bus stop, the four star superior Hotel Böglerhof is lovingly run by the third generation of the Duftner family. Dating back to the 15th century, it is beautifully and traditionally decorated and has superb spa and leisure facilities.

Beginners skiing in Alpbach

Learn on the gentle slopes at Inneralpbach, or at the top of the Wiedersbergerhorn.

Intermediates skiing in Alpbach

A variety of runs for intermediate skiers is available on the Wiedersbergerhorn and the connecting Inneralpbach slopes, with a free ski bus linking the centre of Alpbach with the Wiedersbergerhorn gondola and the Pögl gondola in Inneralpbach (5 minutes' ride) as well as the Reitherkogel gondola in Reith (10 minutes' ride). A gondola connects Inneralpbach with Auffach in the Wildschönau Valley, which adds an even wider choice of runs for intermediate skiers who want to explore the Niederau, Oberau and Auffach ski areas.

Advanced skiing in Alpbach

Although not extensive, advanced skiers will enjoy the black runs and especially the off-piste run down to Hygna (guide recommended), returning to Alpbach by postbus. Ski Pistes 53 and 56 give easy access to extensive off piste areas and Ski Route 66 back to Galtenburg drag lift in Inneralpbach. You also have Schatzberg ski route 27 to Thierbach (with lunch recommended) and post bus or taxi back to Auffach and Schatzbergbahn.

Snowboarding in Alpbach

There is a snowpark for beginners and families on the Wiedersbergerhorn and the wide open, easy slopes lend themselves to beginner and intermediate snowboarders. More experieced boarders will enjoy the 'Race n Boarder' Arena in Niederau which has permanent race track and offers professional training.
