La Clusaz, a picturesque Savoyard village located in the beautiful Aravis mountain range. The resort features a rustic centre with a church, shops and a variety of traditional restaurants serving regional specialties, as well as a number of bars to take advantage of the resort's welcoming ambiance. The ski domain is made up of five interlinked mountains within the Haute-Savoie region, providing access to the expansive Massif des Aravis Ski Area. With 210 kilometres of downhill skiing, beginners and intermediates can enjoy the green and blue runs, while experts can ski the abundant off-piste terrain.

Skiing and snowboarding in La Clusaz

La Clusaz is part of the Aravis Ski Area, which provides access to 133 marked pistes. The resort's excellent green and blue runs make it a great place for beginners and families. For intermediate and advanced skiers, there's an assortment of slopes and an abundance of off-piste terrain (we recommend hiring a guide), as well as the opportunity to ski Le Grand Bornand with an Aravis Lift Pass.

For the majority of the hotels and apartments we offer in La Clusaz you can reach the slopes within a few minutes, making it extremely easy to get onto the mountain.

Bars and restaurants in La Clusaz

La Clusaz is a lively resort with variety of bars and restaurants both in the the village and up in the mountains which offer great food, service and value for money. There's plenty of choices serving a variety of different dishes, whether you feel like a burger, pizza, pasta or traditional Savoyard dishes. The resort also has a number of bars to choose from, relax after a day on the slopes with a glass of Vin Chaud (hot wine) with a log fire and a mountain view.

Enjoy lunch with a view of the mountains at one of the many restaurants dotted around the ski area, many of which serve excellent Savoyard specialities. We recommend sampling the tartiflette.

Beginners skiing and snowboarding in La Clusaz

Beginners are catered for well in La Clusaz with a large variety of blue and green runs, perfect for new skiers to build their confidence. The nursery slopes are served by the Beauregard gondola and located just outside the village, leading to a number of gentle tree lined slopes to allow you to enjoy the views of the mountains. 

Intermediate skiing and snowboarding in La Clusaz

The five interconnecting mountains in the La Clusaz allow a variety of slopes for the intermediate skier to enjoy. More confident skiers can tackle the difficult red runs on the Aiguille and savour the picturesque tree lined slopes. Alternatively, for those that are looking for a change of scenery, the Grand Bornand is just a quick bus ride away, which extends the ski area a further 90 km of pistes.

Advanced skiing and snowboarding in La Clusaz

Massif de la Balme is the perfect setting for a challenge. There are plenty of testing slopes in the Fernuy and Borderan ravines. On the L'Etale side, the "Le Tétras" black run is rarely groomed; it's wonderful when there's fresh snow, but you can test your skills on the moguls if there hasn't been a fresh blanket of snow in a while.

Snowboarders in La Clusaz

Popular with freeride skiers, the Balme mountain is also regarded as a snowboarder's paradise due to its powder stashes, large carving slopes, and abundance of natural hits among its varied terrain. In the Loup area, there is a snow park and fun zone for practising the basics of freestyle skiing or boarding. For the more daring, LCZ Park provides a variety of rails, boxes, and a big air bag.

Things To Do

Restaurants, food and drink

La Clusaz has a large variety of great authentic restaurants to enjoy both in the village and on the mountains. The variety of restaurants allow everyone to eat what they fancy, serving pizzas, pasta and also Savoyard specialties to enjoy during your trip including raclette and fondue! Enjoy lunch with a view of the mountains while listening to some live music on the terrace. The resort also has a number of bars to choose from, relax after a day on the slopes with a glass of Vin Chaud (hot wine) with a log fire and a mountain view.

Apres, bars and nightlife 

The Apres scene in La Clusaz is fairly lively with bars both on and off the slopes. 'Les Caves du Paccaly' is a great spot for some apres ski, a popular spot with locals and tourists. Pressoir bar is known for stocking over 100 different types of beer and for being a local hang out spot. 

L’Ecluse, a club famed for having a glass dancefloor above a steam, is a popular late night spot. 

Shopping

Enjoy La Clusaz's quaint markets in the village, along with a number of small boutique shops, perfect for choosing gifts to take home or to treat yourself with a special souvenir. There is also a 200 year old church that adds to the traditional Savoyard charm of the resort.

Spas and relaxation 

The Aravis Aqua Centre has two fantastic recreational pool areas, one indoor and one outdoor, maintained at a temperature of 29 °c you can marvel at the mountain range whilst you relax. There is also a range of wellness facilities with a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, perfect for resting those achy ski legs. If relaxing isnt your thing, make use of the fitness facilities to help train for your next ski adventure. 

Sledding 

Swap the skis for a sledge and ride down the three dedicated sledding runs, all varying in difficulty. Night sledding is also a possibility.

Ice Skating 

The local ice rink is in the centre of the village and open throughout the week. You can also try the so called 'Bumper Hurricane' which is essentially bumper cars on ice.

Paragliding 

For the more adventurous, experience La Clusaz from the sky by going on a paragliding flight over the Aravis mountains. 

Bowling and Arcade 

For a bit of evening entertainment head to the resorts bowling alley for a game or two, there is also an arcade with a number of simulators and a dart board.

Lift pass information

The Whole Area Pass includes the Aravis Ski Area, so you can ski the resorts of La Clusaz, Le Grand-Bornand, Manigod and Saint-Jean-de-Sixt. 

The La Clusaz to Manigod Pass includes the pistes connecting La Clusaz to Manigod, this is 85 runs and 125km of slopes. 

Free lift passes for children under 4 years are issued locally, a photo ID is required.

When pre-booking your lift pass you will receive a free half day on arrival day, 1 cinema entry, 1 ice rink entry and 1 entry to the 'Le Hameau des Alpes' museum.

Tuition information

  • Ski and snowboard PM timings: 2:15 - 4:45pm. From Feb all lessons will be from 2:30-5pm.
  • Customers staying in Residence Hameau de l'Ours will need to go down to La Clusaz centre for group lessons

Levels of tuition

  • Beginner: never skied before
  • Level 1: advanced beginner; can control speed, snowplough and change direction on gentle slopes 
  • Level 2: low intermediate; snowplough turns and start to ski parallel
  • Level 3: good intermediate; parallel turns 
  • Advanced: fully confident on all slopes and looking to improve technique

Your transfer to La Clusaz will stop as chose as possible to your chosen accommodation. In some cases there may be a couple of minutes' walk due to regulations on where coaches can stop.
