Italy, Lake Garda
Riva is the main resort at this end of Lake Garda and boasts superb scenery, elegant parks and a long lakeside promenade. It has many fine buildings, especially around colourful Piazza Tre Novembre and the 12th Century La Rocca castle dominates the waterfront. In the cobbled streets of the old town you will find an excellent variety of shops, attractive terrace cafés, bars and restaurants. The large, clean, white pebble beach is popular for lake bathing. Stroll along the lake to Torbole and explore other lakeside villages by ferry on your holiday in Riva.
The Wine Festival in Bardolino (October) brings the summer season on Lake Garda to a close. Five days celebrating the new harvest of the grapes from which the famous Bardolino wines are made. Plenty of opportunity to taste the wines and sample regional food specialties, all accompanied by musical concerts ending in a spectacular firework display over the lake.
A night at the opera in the ancient arena in Verona must surely be one of life’s great experiences even if you’re not an opera buff. TThe 2017 programme (23 June - 27 August) sees the return of the all-time favourite Aida by Verdi loved for its lavish scenery and costumes. But there are also performances of Rigoletto and Nabucco by Verdi as well as Tosca and Madame Butterfly by Puccini. If you are staying in any of the main resorts on Lake Garda, such as Peschiera, we can book most performances (listed on the Verona opera page) and transport to and from Verona is included in addition to your opera ticket. Performances start at 9pm, but you will be taken to Verona in plenty of time to enjoy a pre-opera dinner in a restaurant of your choice.
