Managed by three generations of the lovely Bergonzini family, the Hotel Capri is every bit as warm and welcoming as it is striking. Balanced upon the craggy rocks of the Malcesine coastline, this superb hotel is in a prime position for those looking for rest and relaxation in the northern territory of one of Italy's most famous lakes. The decor is light, airy and earthy, a homage to its surrounding mountains and forests. An ombre of pine and oak weaves throughout the hotel and its rooms, complimented by rich shades of cream and gold bringing a chic edge to this otherwise simple design.
The onsite restaurant of the Hotel Capri offers up sumptuous dishes of the region ranging from home cooked pappardelle e vongole to haute cuisine fish dishes from a choice of menu each evening. Wines from the owners cellar are offered as delicate pairings to the courses and dessert of course is never to be missed in Italy with homemade cannoli, panna cotta and fresh fruits to name but a few.
Despite its elevated position, the Hotel Capri is just 100 meters from the lakefront This can be reached either by steps or by taking a small road leading up behind the hotel to a lift which will bring you from the reception down through the rocks to the lakefront for those who want to avoid the stony steps. The historic centre of Malcesine is just 650 yards away and offers a variety of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants dotted along its cobbled streets. Whilst the bulk of the town is on an ascent, there are some beautiful locations down on the waterfront on the flat including Malcesine castle which also doubles a wedding venue so don't be surprised if you see the odd bride as you wander around town! The ferry port is also nearby which gives you the chance to get out and about with ferries travelling right down to the south of the lake so you can take in every resort from the bustle of Desenzano to the most northerly resort of Riva with its baroque architecture and towering town clock spire. Be sure to take a trip on the Monte Baldo cable car in Malcesine which offers exceptional views of the surrounding mountains as well as the lake below and runs every 30 minutes from approx. 8 am.
