Malcesine Holidays

Malcesine has a lot going for it and it’s perfect for anyone seeking an active holiday. It’s in the north of the lake so you’ve got lots of mountain trails to explore. The cable car goes straight from the town to the top of Monte Baldo, which is a starting point for lots of walk and cycles. The views from up here are incredible so we won’t blame you if you just want to sit and enjoy them instead. The town’s also big on watersports – you can try your hand at sailing or paddle boarding.

Malcesine is one of Lake Garda’s most recognisable resorts. Its beautiful 13th century castle makes it easy to spot from the water. If you go and take a closer look you’ll be rewarded with some pretty impressive lake views. They often have weddings here so you can imagine how romantic it is. The rest of Malcesine feels just as romantic thanks to the little cobbled streets and charming cafés. There’s a long promenade from the southern end of the town where you can walk for a few miles along the lake. There’s a busy ferry port too so you can head to some nearby towns like Limone or Riva very easily.

Things To Do

We love walking holidays in Malcesine. To get the best views, you need to head up Monte Baldo. You can see for miles up here and get 360 degree panoramas. The Walk of the Little Stone Men is a great route to do – it’s less than five kilometres and suitable for all abilities. You could also take a ferry to Riva or Limone – both resorts have plenty more walking trails to choose from.

There’s nothing quite like jumping on your saddle and peddling along Lake Garda. It’s such a relaxing thing to do and a great way to build up your appetite! We recommend a leisurely bike ride along the shore to one of Malcesine’s nearby resorts where you can stop for lunch. If all that sounds a bit tame, then take to the sky. The top of Monte Baldo has some great, thrill-seeking routes down the mountain.

Water based

It’s almost impossible to resist taking to the water in Malcesine. Paddle boarding is a great activity for everyone and gives you a nice, unique view of the town. Get more serious and take a sailing or kite surfing course. It’s always nice to come back from holiday with a few new skills.

Scaligeri Castle is a must-see in Malcesine. It’s been there since the 13th Century so history buffs will love walking around and reading about it’s interesting past. Head to museum to find out more. Before you go back into town, make the climb to the top of the tower where the lake views are incredible – don’t forget your camera.

Palazzo dei Capitani is probably the second most important historic building in the town. In the 15th Century it was the headquarters for the Venetian rulers of the area. It’s close to the harbour and once you’ve finished exploring inside, you can admire the lake views from the gardens.

Food & drink

A favourite past time of tourists in Malcesine is eating and drinking. The harbour and lakeside is filled with cafés and bars offering fresh food and local wines. Pull up a chair and order your favourite dish while you people watch or look out over the lake. We recommend trying a glass of Bardolino red and a big plate of bigoli – a long, thick spaghetti-like pasta from the Veneto region.

Hotel Europa SkyPool & Panorama, Exterior Harbour
