"Traditional village with fabulous skiing at the foot of the mighty Eiger"

This traditional mountain village is set amidst spectacular scenery at the foot of the towering north face of the Eiger. Easy access via mountain train, gondola and cable-car to the ‘Jungfrau’ ski region including the pistes linking Kleine Scheidegg and Männlichen means that you can tackle the challenging Lauberhorn race run, have lunch in Wengen, and be home in time for tea. Or spend the day cruising the long red runs at ‘First’, Grindelwald’s own ski area. Non-skiers have fantastic winter walking possibilities with the non-skiers lift pass, whilst the friendly village has numerous shops, bars and cafés.

Last Snowfall: 18/ 02/ 2018: 11cm 167cm - 426cm snow across whole area. Forecast: Following a mostly foggy start with sunny intervals, we had a clear and sunny day on Monday followed by part sun part cloud on Tuesday. The forecast for the rest of the week is for part cloud part sun with a light covering of new snow for Thursday afternoon and further snowfall in to the week end. Temperatures 1 to -19°C. Event: - One highlight of a stay in Grindelwald is to visit Muerren and the Schilthorn. Muerren is a true mountain village in every sense in that there is no physical road access, you can only reach it by cable car and mountain train. It evolved from dairy farming and then the ski industry came along. It has a wonderful Victorian atmosphere with attractive wooden chalet style buildings and the finest views in the Bernese Oberland looking way down into the perfectly u-shaped Lauterbrunnen Valley, and up to a wonderful mountain panorama of the Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau. Two cable cars take you to the very highest point, on the Schilthorn where you can enjoy the Piz Gloria, the revolving restaurant used in the making of the James bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" starring George Lasenby as James Bond, Dianna Rig as the leading lady and Tele Savalas as the bady. You can enjoy all the action of the film in the cinema, the James Bond exhibition which includes the bob sleigh used in one of the scenes and enjoy a lunch and Panoramic scenery in the revolving restaurant. You can also admire amazing views from the terrace which was built as a helicopter pad for the film and see way across Switzerland to Mont Blanc on the French border and to the Black Forrest in Bavaria. Skiers may enjoy a shaken not stirred whilst contemplating the black run with its 75 % gradient - the only ski route down apart from the cable car which you can use to access the blue and red pistes of Birg just below.
